Sort order. May 22, Cori rated it really liked it. A cute story about twin girls enjoying time together but realizing what it is like to be a part. Its a great early chapter book with bigger font and pictures for the students that don't quite have the stamina to read without pictures just yet. I won this through the BookingMama blog giveaway. Feb 10, Heidi rated it really liked it. Hurwitz has a gift for writing realistic early chapter books. Her characters feel genuine and her plots are interesting. Arlene and Ilene are identical twins who love being identical. But that doesn't mean they agree on everything. The girls agree a lot of the time, but they argue like most siblings do. In this book the girls deal with having pets ferrets , Halloween, new triplets at school, and Arlene having surgery. The book is a fun read with plenty to smile about, except when the girls lie Hurwitz has a gift for writing realistic early chapter books.

I like to recommend these sorts of books to 2nd-3rd graders because they can relate to the stories and the shortness makes it readable. The illustrations breaking up the text are a nice touch and makes the book easier to swallow for young readers.

While their adventures might seem somewhat ordinary, their close bond alongside the struggles they share make these twins fun and interesting to read about.

Every once in a while we get another book that surfaces, with the sam For those lovers of twin stories, we have Arlene and Ilene, identical twins in second grade. Every once in a while we get another book that surfaces, with the same kinds of twin problems that non-twins read about in delight. Because after all, when we were young, we all imagined at some point how much fun it would be to have a twin. I liked the story and wish there was more. A series about these girls would be fun. For a girl that's advanced to reading chapter books and likes twin stories, this book is just the thing.
But then the author has a pretty solid reputation for years, and seems to have that perfect knack for creating books about kids that kids want to read. They enjoy doing everything together, and always having a best friend to play with. Bur when an emergency medical condition flares up, and Arlene has to stay in the hospital for a few days, the twins both discover, that they don't have to do everything together, and making new friends is just as much fun doing it together, or apart. I couldn't resist getting this book from the library since it's about twins, and I'm a twin. I knew Christopher wouldn't read it because it's a contemporary book about girls, but he did listen to me read it to him. It plays on the twinness a little more that I would have liked, but it's a fun book about sisters and friendship. I good alternative to Junie B. Jones for young readers. Arlene and Ilene Kelly might have two different birthdays, but they are definitely identical twins, born just before and just after midnight on two consecutive June days. In this book, the girls take care of ferrets, fool new classmates into believing they're actually triplets, accidentally upset their neighbors during trick-or-treat and endure their first separation when one must spend the night in the hospital.
